The locks attached to the bikes have Bluetooth 4.0 so it can wirelessly communicate to the users phone.
This is a long range Bluetooth which can have a range of up to 120m (400ft).
The lock has a built-in antenna to help it achieve a long range wireless connection.
All wireless connections are encrypted for security reasons.
